SCO XENIX Built-in Serial Driver Installation Guide

for Moxa 4 Ports ISA Multiport Board


Applicable Products:
A104, C104+, C104P, C104H, C104HS, C114P, C114HI, CI-134, CI-134I,
                                             CI-134IS, CI-104J, CI-104JS.

This document intends to support Moxa 4-port board, such as C104P, to run under SCO XENIX.


Hardware Configuration:

  1. For A104, C104+ and C114P users, please ignore step 2, 3, 4, 6, 7.
  1. Short JP1 of C104P, plug it into PC and power on this PC under DOS environment.
  1. Execute ¡§IO-IRQ.EXE¡¨ to change its configuration.
  1. Input ¡§A700¡¨ as CAP address to enter the setup display.
  1. For C104P, C104H, C104HS and C114HI:

Press ¡§F3¡¨ to select OS compatibility and you can find there are 2 kinds of settings for SCO XENIX as choice:

          *SCO XENIX 1: Arnet compatible, I/O base 0x280, IRQ 4, vector 0x2C2.
          *SCO XENIX 2: Arnet compatible, I/O base 0x180, IRQ 3, vector 0x1C2.

Choose a proper one as the configuration, now we assume the first settings are selected to configure the C104P.

For A104, C104+ and C114P:

Find out available resource for I/O address, IRQ, and INT vector as the configurations, now we assume the configurations are listed as below.

          I/O address: 280, 288, 290, 298
          Speed: all to normal (maximum speed is up to 115.2 Kbps)
          IRQ: all to 4 (4 ports share the same IRQ)
          INT vector: 0x2C0

  1. Press ¡§F10¡¨ to save this configuration and quit ¡§IO-IRQ.EXE¡¨.
  1. Power off PC, set JP1 open and prepare to install C104P under SCO XENIX system.


Driver and System Configuration:

  1. Under SCO XENIX, enter ¡§mkdev serial¡¨ at command prompt to begin the driver and system installation.
  1. While the message ¡§You would like to install a:¡¨ shows up. Press ¡§3¡¨ to choose ¡§3. 4 port card¡¨.
  1. When the system asks you to input the IRQ setting, the message ¡§The card is configures as:¡¨ will appear on the screen. Because C104P has the settings of ¡§SCO XENIX 1¡¨, please press ¡§1¡¨ to select ¡§1. COM1¡¨.
  1. After the above procedure, the following message will appear:
  2.           The following standard serial device(s) have been install:
                             tty1a, tty1b, tty1c, tty1d
              The following device(s) access the same physical port as their
              lower-case counterpart, but have modem control properties:
                             tty1A, tty1B, tty1C, tty1D
              /etc/ttyS has been updated.
              /etc/ttytype has been updated.

  3. Then system will ask you to create a new kernel or not, please press "y" to create the new kernel.
  1. Reboot SCO XENIX to finish the installation procedure and the C104P will work properly under SCO XENIX.
